Example of Dana
Thank you to Jenna, Will, Alex, and Kelsey for their help and "Dana". They kindly accepted the job of painting the handrails for the new ramp and other rails at church in need of a new coat of paint. Don't worry Will... the paint will come off your hands... eventually!

Pictures of the 2010 CCBWL Conference have been posted under the 2010 Pictures. Click here to view! Thank you to all the church members who fixed, cleaned, and set up for the conference and the Dharma School students and parents for their work on Beautification Day. Everything looks great!

What's New?

Information regarding the history of Japanese living in Reedley was included in a new book on ethnic cuisine by Richard Calhoun.
"Along with Reedley, there are 25 other communities with ethnic history, historical attractions, ethnic restaurants, more than 200 ethnic recipes, and about 100 historical photographs.
In the mid-1880s, Thomas Law Reed farmed wheat for the gold miners and donated land for a railroad station, and a railroad official named the town “Reedley” in his honor. The book has history of the Japanese and the Mennonites, along with their early day recipes. There’s also the history of the Opera House, a list of events including the Blossom Trail Bike Ride, a look at some of Reedley’s farms and restaurants. Jon Koobation of Jon’s Bear Club shares five of his family’s recipes."
The 222 page book retails for $25.50, you can receive a copy for $20 postpaid.

Congratulations to Reedley Buddhist Church member, Mr. Joe Ikemiya who was honored on December 13, 2009 with an honorary degree from the University of California Berkeley.

*The University of California, Berkeley honored Japanese American students whose attendance during the 1941 - 42 academic year was disrupted by Executive Order 9066, which forcibly relocated more than 120,000 persons of Japanese ancestry to internment camps following the Japanese military attack on Pearl Harbor. For the first time in 37 years, the University of California Board of Regents voted in July to grant these special honorary degrees.
Mr. Ikemiya is the father of church president, Bob Ikemiya, and approximately 40 relatives attended this special event! Congratulations! *
